Mike Flanagan's The Life of Chuck will officially begin streaming in December. Prior to The Life of Chuck, Flanagan's last Stephen King adaptation was The Shining sequel, Doctor Sleep, which came to theaters in 2019. The filmmaker's first time adapting King's work was 2017's Gerald's Game.

The Life of Chuck will make its Hulu debut on December 26. The movie has been available for digital purchase or rental on Prime Video and other VOD platforms since July 29, but this marks the first time that it will be available to stream.

Based on King's story of the same name, The Life of Chuck tells the story of its titular character's life in reverse. Tom Hiddleston plays the adult Charles "Chuck" Krantz, while Jacob Tremblay, Benjamin Pajak, and Cody Flanagan play younger iterations of the character. The star-studded cast also includes Mark Hamill, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Karen Gillan, Nick Offerman, Matthew Lillard, and Rahul Kohli.

Following its debut at the 2024 Toronto Film Festival, where it won the People's Choice Award, The Life of Chuck's reviews have been generally positive. It holds a 79% critical score and 88% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Unlike Flanagan's many Netflix shows and previous King adaptations, The Life of Chuck does not belong to the horror genre, and is instead a heartfelt drama that contains some fantastical elements. It has more in common with The Shawshank Redemption than The Shining, IT, and other horror stories King has written.

After returning to the world of King with The Life of Chuck, Flanagan has more adaptations of the iconic author's work on the way. He is helming a Carrie TV series for Prime Video and confirmed on October 24 that the miniseries' filming had wrapped and that it was "already one of my favorite projects ever."

The cast of Mike Flanagan's Carrie show includes Summer H. Howell as Carrie White, Samantha Sloyan as Margaret White, Amber Midthunder as Rita Desjardin, Siena Agudong as Sue Snell, Lillard as Henry Grayle, along with Katee Sackhoff and Kohli in recurring roles that remain under wraps.

Flanagan is also working on an adaptation of King's Dark Tower books, although his latest Dark Tower update was that the series will take "a long time" due to the many challenging logistics involved with bringing the ambitious story to life. Ahead of Prime Video's Carrie and the long-gestating Dark Tower adaptation, fans of Flanagan and King's work can watch The Life of Chuck on Hulu.
