Hufanga was nominated by the Broncos for the Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award. The award "recognizes individuals around the league who exemplify outstanding sportsmanship," the NFL said in a press release.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisement"The award... is presented to a player 'who best demonstrates the qualities of on-field sportsmanship, including fair play, respect for the game and opponents and integrity in competition,'" reads the Broncos' announcement of Hufanga's nomination.
Hufanga has been a difference-maker on the Denver defense since signing as a free agent in March. Hufanga immediately impressed his teammates with his work ethic. Before long, Hufanga was voted as a team captain, the only captain who wasn't with the Broncos in 2024.
Through 11 games, Hufanga has made 76 total tackles (44 solo, 32 assisted, three tackles for loss), 2.0 sacks, forced one fumble, and had several near-interceptions with nine pass deflections. Hufanga flies all over the field every week, making spectacular play after spectacular play.
The Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award is an annual award named after Hall of Fame owner Art Rooney Sr., of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

All 32 teams have nominated a player. The award winner will be announced during NFL Honors in February.
