Guillermo del Toro confirms that his Frankenstein movie will achieve a rare Netflix feat. His take on Mary Shelley's original Frankenstein novel features Oscar Isaac as Victor Frankenstein, Jacob Elordi as the Creature, and Mia Goth as Lady Elizabeth Harlander. After debuting at the Venice International Film Festival, it had a limited theatrical release before streaming on Netflix.

On X, a fan posted about wanting to see the deleted convent scene and the "gorgeous" costume designs included in it. Del Toro reposted this and responded that "It will be included in the physical media release." Check out del Toro's post below:

Del Toro's response confirms that Frankenstein will be getting a physical media release, a feat that most original Netflix movies and shows do not achieve, as the majority remain exclusive to the streaming platform. His confirmation about including the deleted convent scene means that the physical release will also include new content that is not available to Netflix subscribers.

This development comes as Netflix's approach to releasing its content continues to evolve, especially where the theatrical side is considered. After its massive popularity on streaming, Netflix's KPop Demon Hunters had two theatrical releases. The Stranger Things season 5 finale is coming to select theaters beginning on December 31, and Greta Gerwig's Chronicles of Narnia movie will have a wide release in theaters for several weeks before debuting on Netflix in 2026.

As for the physical release of del Toro's movie, it builds on the success that the film has already had. Frankenstein's reviews were largely positive, with an 86% critical score and 94% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Along with del Toro's direction, Elordi has received extensive praise for his nuanced portrayal of the Creature.

Frankenstein has also been a streaming hit for Netflix. As of November 26, it has spent three consecutive weeks in the streamer's global Top 10 chart of most-watched English-language films and boasts an impressive 37 million hours of viewership.

Along with the positive reception from critics and fans, and high viewership, Frankenstein has significant Oscar nominee potential. Best Picture, Best Production Design, Best Costume Design, and Best Makeup and Hairstyling are all categories it has a good chance of being recognized for, in addition to Elordi being nominated for Best Supporting Actor.

The good news now continues for fans of del Toro's Frankenstein and for those who want to see more streaming originals receive physical media releases.
