Two members of the National Guard were reportedly shot in Washington, D.C., near the White House, a law enforcement official told The Associated Press.
Their conditions aren’t immediately known, the official said.
The Washington D.C. Metropolitan Police Department wrote on X it had secured the scene of a shooting near Farragut Square, about a block from the White House complex, and that a suspect was in custody.
“Please join me in praying for the two National Guardsmen who were just shot moments ago in Washington D.C.,” Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem wrote on X. “DHS is working with local law enforcement to gather more information.”
The Independent has contacted the D.C. National Guard, Secret Service, and Washington police for comment.
