Xbox Game Pass giveth and taketh away. Although we're losing a few killer games this month, new ones are popping up often, including a new mystery drop.
Revealed out of nowhere on the Xbox blog, a new game from the Ko_Op team is heading to the service through Game Preview, and sci-fi fans will want to take note.
Xbox Game Pass Dropped A Third Game Out Of The Blue
If You Like Space, Check It Out
Surprise! Xbox Game Pass is getting Young Suns, which is a narrative simulator set in an "optimistic alternate future of space." You'll sport your own spaceship and will help "friendly citizens build a better tomorrow," after being freed from "predatory corporations." In other words, it's like the anti-Cyberpunk 2077.
It's part of a large wave of hopepunk media that's been popping up over the last few years, and is perfectly suited for a cozy experience. Sci-fi settings are often grimdark or haunting in some way, so it's great to play a game that offers a feeling of galactic discovery in a different light.
Interestingly, the developer also explains that the game will be "growing and expanding" with the community, both in terms of mechanics and the narrative. That's part of the reason the game is currently in Game Preview status: it's still in active development.
Changes to the final version of the game include expanded space, additional tools, more interaction, and more minigames, as well as extra biomes, wildlife, NPCs, and cosmetics. It sounds pretty ambitious for an indie studio at the end of the day, but it'll be fascinating to see the game grow over time. If you're interested, the developer has shared a roadmap of what's to come on their official site.
Young Suns Is A Cozy Sci-Fi Sim
You Can't Have Too Many Cozy Games
In Young Suns, you'll live on your spaceship, which you can decorate to your heart's content, similar to a house in Animal Crossing or Stardew Valley. You can also cultivate and craft in your ship, and collect items on your space travels to put in your home. Co-op decoration is also in at launch, so you can join up with up to three other friends for four-player co-op action.
It isn't a massive time sink, either. In fact, the developer recommends checking in for "an hour or two daily" to build your ship and meet new NPCs slowly. In other words, it's a return to that casual Animal Crossing style where you don't have to mainline the game to feel like you're making steady progress.
Young Suns looks like a great cozy winter game to play with family, and the fact that it's on Game Pass will make facilitating multiplayer that much easier.
