Arne Slot's side were humbled at home by struggling Nottingham Forest on Saturday, losing 3-0 and succumbing to a sixth defeat in their last seven Premier League games. The reigning champions of England are all over the place but the Champions League has given them respite from their domestic struggles. Liverpool have won three of their four games in this competition so far, including a massive home win against Real Madrid last time out, and a victory against PSV would go a long way to helping them secure qualification through to the knockout rounds.

They hammered Napoli 6-2 and have a six-point lead atop the Eredivisie table. Slot knows all about PSV and somehow the superb work Peter Bosz is doing continues to fly under the radar. PSV keep producing plenty of talented young players and are becoming one of the most stable, overachieving teams in Europe. They will have no fear going to Liverpool.
Liverpool team news, focus
Liverpool's issues at right back continue with Conor Bradley joining Jeremie Frimpong on the sidelines, so Dominik Szoboszlai is likely to continue to play out of position there but perhaps Joe Gomez will be used at right back. Florian Wirtz is a doubt, while there could be wholesale changes as Slot tries to find the right combinations. Mohamed Salah and Alexander Isak are both struggling for form and confidence with Hugo Ekitike, Cody Gakpo and Fedrico Chiesa potentially getting the nod to start in attack.
PSV team news, focus
The Dutch champions have a very solid, reliable side and forwards Dennis Man, Guus Til and Ivan Perisic have a wonderful balance about them. USMNT fans will be pleased to see right back Sergino Dest finally back fit and getting regular starts, while Ricardo Pepi very often jumps off the bench and he did that to score a late equalizer at Olympiacos last time out in the Champions League. Dutch internationals Joey Veerman and Jerdy Schouten are key to PSV's solid midfield and defense.
Liverpool vs PSV prediction
This feels like it's going to be very open and chaotic but Liverpool will just about edge it. Liverpool 3-2 PSV.
