Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 actor Maxence Cazorla has praised the “incredibly generous” Charlie Cox for making sure his work on the hit game is recognised.

Last week, Charlie Cox was nominated for Best Performance at The Game Awards 2026 for his portrayal of Gustave in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. However some fans weren’t happy with the nod after Cox revealed he only spent one four-hour session recording his lines. “I’m not a gamer [and] I haven’t played it. People keep saying how amazing it is and congratulations but I feel like a total fraud,” he revealed earlier this year.

Responding to the backlash over the weekend, Cox said he was “thrilled” about the nomination but “the performance of that character is really down to… an amazing French actor called Maxence Cazorla” who did almost all of the motion capture for that role. “Any nomination or credit I get, I really have to give to him,” he added.

Cazorla also did the motion capture for Verso (the character voiced by Ben Starr, who was also nominated for Best Performance at The Game Awards) and voiced Esquire in both English and French.

Taking to social media, Cazorla thanked Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 fans for their support following The Game Award 2025 nominations. “Charlie’s words were incredibly generous, and I’m truly grateful,” he continued. “Bringing Gustave to life was a team effort, and I’m honoured to have played my part in it.”

The winners of The Game Awards 2025 will be revealed in a ceremony on December 11. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is nominated for a record-breaking 12 awards.

Earlier this year, it was confirmed a live-action adaptation of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is in the works. Hollywood star Glen Powell has said he’s “very interested” in being involved, much to the faux-outrage of Charlie Cox.

In other news, the Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 orchestral tour has confirmed UK and European dates for early next year – check out the full schedule here.
