Scrubs is officially back, and after a 16-year hiatus, things look very different between J.D. and Elliot. While doctors John Dorian and Elliot Reid had a spark together since Scrubs began back in 2001, the pair didn't tie the knot until much later.
In fact, the moment when J.D. and Elliot get married isn't actually a part of the series, as it played out between the end of Scrubs season 8 and the beginning of season 9. And when this is revealed, the audience also learns that the pair are expecting their first child together.
Now, 16 years later, the show is finally set to reunite these characters on screen as part of the upcoming Scrubs season 10; however, it seems as though things may have changed dramatically behind the scenes once again.

Scrubs officially released a short teaser trailer that introduces audiences back to the world of Sacred Heart, and also features the original cast as they reprise their roles and step back into playing these beloved characters.
While J.D. walks confidently and proudly down the hall alongside his best friend, Christopher Turk, and his longtime love interest, Elliot Reid, there is a key detail that hints that their relationship may have soured in the years since the series wrapped. Neither J.D. nor Elliot is wearing a wedding ring.
The fact that this reboot picks up 16 years after season 9 ended means there has been a lot of time for their connection to evolve and change over time, but fans may have anticipated finally seeing the pair as a happy couple with their teenage child, and it looks like that will not be the case.
Scrubs Will Likely Address What Happened To JD And Elliot's Marriage

Despite the lack of wedding rings, it does seem like J.D. and Elliot are on good terms. There is no animosity or cruelty in their interaction, and they continue to have a comfortable rapport. So, it's down to Scrubs season 10 to dig deeper into this relationship and unveil what happened.
J.D. already had one child ahead of season 9, and it's possible that J.D. and Elliot may have had more children while they were together. Thus, it will be important for the show to address the co-parenting situation and what exactly caused J.D. and Elliot to fall apart after having such a strong and enduring connection.
Whatever happened, their individual circumstances have somehow landed them both back where they started, working side by side at Sacred Heart. And this could create some tension for the pair as they will doubtless be presented with new romantic challenges ahead.
Thankfully, Turk's ring can still be seen on his finger during the teaser, which indicates that he and Carla are still going strong, but until season 10 begins airing, a lot is still left up in the air.
JD And Elliot Could Potentially Reignite Their Spark In The Reboot

One of the biggest elements of the original Scrubs series was the relationship dynamics. Couples got together and broke up, and there were many times when things got messy with some of the core characters getting into relationships that had a knock-on effect with their other colleagues.
And quite often, J.D. and Elliot were at the center of some of the messiest relationship drama. This all came about because of the intense chemistry between the two, and it ultimately led to the pair cementing their relationship through marriage.
But, now that they have gone their separate ways, and the relationship has broken down, it leaves the door open for both characters to explore new connections. This is likely to be a part of the show, but depending on how long they have been separated and if they had much contact in the meantime, they could rekindle their spark.
For instance, if what broke them up was related to both of them getting jobs and opportunities in very different places, they could have separated due to the distance making their relationship unsustainable. Considering how they were both following very different paths in medicine, this is highly plausible.
However, their relationship might have broken down much more recently, or in a messy way, which could lead to some serious tension between J.D. and Elliot. But in either instance, it seems likely that they will continue to have some form of a meaningful bond and connection.
It might just be wishful thinking from a fan of the original series, but there is a chance that Scrubs season 10 could not only see J.D. and Elliot get back together, but it could finally give fans the love story we didn't get to see play out ahead of their first marriage.
Whatever happens, there is a lot to look forward to in Scrubs season 10, as the Sacred Heart gang reunite, and the laugh-out-loud humor returns. Whether J.D. and Elliot get back together remains to be seen, but watching their relationship unfold is sure to be a spectacular and entertaining journey.
