If you just got yourself a Nintendo Switch 2 during this week's Black Friday sales, but aren't best pleased about the handheld's measly 256GB onboard storage, you're gonna need a microSD Express Card.

These new speedy cards are great at boosting your new handheld's storage, but they can be pretty pricey. This month's Black Friday Switch deals have changed all that, as now there's a myriad of discounts to be found on all manner of Switch 2 SD cards, ranging from $25 off (Amazon) the 512GB Samsung P9 model, to an official $30 off discount heading to the official 256GB Samsung card later this week.

GIGASTONE 128GB microSD Express Card| $59.99$39.99 at AmazonSave $20

GIGASTONE 128GB microSD Express Card | $59.99 $39.99 at AmazonSave $20 - If you don't have the biggest budget to spend on storage, this 128GB Switch 2 card is only $39.99 this Black Friday. It doesn't have the same brand recognition as cards from the likes of Samsung and Lexar, but it still provides up to 880 MB/S and 500 MB/s read and write speeds for your Switch 2. Plus, for $20 off, you even get an SD adapter and USB-C Card Reader included too.

SanDisk 256GB microSD Express Card | $67.99 $59.99 at AmazonSave $8 - This isn't the cheapest microSD Express card deal you can expect this week, but if you're desperate for storage and can't wait for the official Samsung Switch 2 SD card to drop down in price, you can grab this model instead. Not to mention, the official Samsung alternative can be tricky to find in stock, making this deal more valuable than ever.

Samsung P9 512GB Express microSD Express Card | $99.99 $74.99 at AmazonSave $25 - If an extra 256GB isn't enough, you can grab this 512GB capacity card instead for just $74.99 at Amazon. Even with today's $25 off, it's definitely still a pricey card, I can't deny that. However, this is the lowest you'll find for a 512GB Switch 2 card right now, which makes it one of the best Switch 2 storage deals I've found this Black Friday.UK: £100 at Amazon

View DealLexar 1TB Play PRO microSD Express Card| $219.99$199.49 at AmazonSave $19

Lexar 1TB Play PRO microSD Express Card | $219.99 $199.49 at AmazonSave $19 - There aren't too many brands that have higher capacity Switch 2 cards available, but you can at least grab the 1TB Lexar Play Pro microSD Express Card for less this Black Friday. It's down to under $200 thanks to this week's sales, which is still a lot to fork out for just some extra storage, but any saving off a mighty 1,000GB of extra space is worth it in my eyes.

Do you need a microSD Express Card for the Nintendo Switch 2?

If you want any additional storage for your new Ninty handheld, you'll need to invest in one of the best microSD Express Cards available today. That's because only these new speedy cards can provide the faster data reading and writing speeds required to run and store your current (and future) Switch 2 games.

Older Switch SD cards are still technically compatible with your new handheld, but only to transfer screenshots and game clips.

Fortunately, not only are more brands, from Samsung to Lexar, launching new capacity microSD Express Cards on the regular, but Nintendo has an official card of its own in the form of the 256GB Samsung microSD Express Card, which features some adorable red and white Super Mario branding. The latter of which will be receiving a $30 price cut later in the week, and I'll be sure to add it to the deals above once its Black Friday saving goes live.

Of course, if you can make do with the 256GB on-board storage found on your handheld, there's no need to fork out extra cash for more storage. Just be wary that Switch 2 games are steadily getting more storage-demanding little by little, so having one at your disposal can be handy at combating large install files and pesky update files for online games like Fortnite, too.

Ever since I first held a NES controller in my hand I've been obsessed with gaming, and the hardware it runs on. I could hook up a NES and SNES to a telly, without instructions, before I could walk. Even now, nothing is more exciting then taking a console, or handheld, out the box for the first time and setting it up. This obsession transformed into a love of games and game music, which lead to my music degree and dream of becoming the Scottish Nobuo Uematsu. After sharing my love of games through music, I began to share my love through words on sites like TechRadar and iMore. This lead to becoming a Hardware staff writer for PCGamesN, and later the Senior Tech Writer for Dexerto, covering all things Steam Deck, PlayStation and Nintendo. With that experience, I was able to level up as Hardware Editor for GamesRadar+, where I'm still just as Nintendo, PlayStation and gaming tech obsessed as ever.
