By Alyce CollinsShareNewsweek is a Trust Project memberThe unexpected item a man found on the curb in an affluent neighborhood has left the internet stunned.
Reddit user u/al3xanderthegoat has taken to social media to share the incredible new piece of furniture in their home which didn’t cost a dime. The Reddit post shows three photos of a red leather Stressless chair which was seemingly left outside on the curb when it was no longer wanted.
Indeed, u/al3xanderthegoat explained in the caption that his dad “delivers mail in a rich, upper-class neighborhood” and he spotted the secondhand chair during his rounds. Upon hearing about the “nice chair,” the Reddit user couldn’t resist driving straight over there and claiming it as his own.
“There’s literally nothing wrong with it. It’s my gaming chair now, even if it’s a little too big for my room,” u/al3xanderthegoat continued.
...Newsweek has contacted u/al3xanderthegoat via Reddit for comment. We could not verify the details of the post.
After getting the red leather chair back home, u/al3xanderthegoat cleaned it up and gave it a fresh new look before using it for gaming.
New furniture can certainly be pricey, but u/al3xanderthegoat may have just saved himself a couple thousand dollars with this latest addition. Nancy Dow, an interior designer at Sierra Living Concepts, told Newsweek that this chair is “a fantastic find” because a new leather Stressless chair can be sold for anywhere between $1,700 and $2,000.
“Stressless is a luxurious brand that is characterized by the quality of materials, excellent back support, and durability,” Dow said. “If this particular chair is in good condition and has not yet broken the reclining features, then that originally would have occupied such a price bracket.
“The Stressless seats are designed to be durable, and to have a free Stressless seat is indeed a fortune and treasure to find, particularly one that is upholstered in a fashionable red leather shade."
Internet users can’t get enough of this unexpected find. In the days since u/al3xanderthegoat shared it online, the Reddit post has generated over 8,000 votes and more than 160 comments at the time of writing. Among the responses, many people praised the poster for repurposing this secondhand chair.
One comment on the post reads: “I love those chairs! Red is such a good find too! Most of the ones I see for resale are all boring browns and tans and grays.”
Another person replied: “Great find. Too good to chuck out.”
Another Reddit user wrote: “I have a different version of this chair but it’s one of my favorite napping chairs. Enjoy the rest!”
While one commenter added: “Looks to be in good condition too. Nice find!”
