Sisu was a smashing hit critically upon its premiere back in 2022, and in no time, its sequel, Sisu: Road to Revenge, was being discussed. The sequel debuted in US theaters only a few days ago and has already been getting rave reviews, with fans eagerly hoping another installment is on the way. Jalmari Helander, who directed both films, has some interesting thoughts about that, which he recently addressed.
Given the final moments of Sisu: Road to Revenge, which sees Aatami finally get to rebuild his home with the help of members of the local community after he was able to kill Igor, avenging the death of his family. Speaking in an interview, Helander admitted that he found the second installment to be a satisfying and "beautiful" conclusion for Aatami; however, he did note that the series could continue if he has an idea for a third film. "I like to think that this is a very beautiful ending for the story of Aatami Korpi," the filmmaker said. "But at the same time, you never know. Some day I might have an idea for the third one. Let's see."
Released on November 21, 2025, Sisu 2 has grossed $6 million worldwide so far on a reported budget of $12 million. The war pic opened with $2.6 million domestically last weekend, taking the sixth spot on the domestic charts, which was topped by the riveting Wicked: For Good. The second Sisu installment also boasts a 96% Certified Fresh rating from critics, slightly higher than its predecessor's 94%, with the consensus acknowledging that it "consistently and creatively kills the competition." Meanwhile, both films hold a similar 88% Popcornmeter score on the review aggregator website.
Who Stars in 'Sisu: Road to Revenge'?
In Sisu, which was set during the last desperate days of World War II, Jorma Tommila portrays Aatami Korpi, the Finnish Army commando-turned-gold prospector who goes to extreme lengths to get his stolen gold back from the Nazis. The movie also starred Aksel Hennie, Jack Doolan, Mimosa Willamo, and Onni Tommila. Road to Revenge, on the other hand, sees Tommila return as Aatami, who wants to rebuild his family's home, only to find himself hunted by Igor Draganov (Stephen Lang), a Soviet Red Army officer responsible for killing his family. Richard Brake also stars, while director Helander wrote the script.
Sisu: Road to Revenge is playing in theaters. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates about a possible threequel.
