Nebraska special teams coach Mike Ekeler was named a finalist for the 2025 Broyles Award. The school announced the nomination on Tuesday.

The Broyles Award is given to the top assistant coach in college football. Ekeler has helped transform the Huskers' special-teams unit this season. They have excelled in several areas.

Returner Kenneth Williams is third in the Big Ten in kickoff return yards with 395. Kicker Kyle Cunanan has 81 points on the year and has made 13-of-16 field goals, including one from 50-plus yards. Punter Archie Wilson has punted well this season, averaging 39.9 yards per kick. He has 1,118 total yards on the season.

Overall, the unit has been producing at a high level. Ekeler has completely transformed the unit. It will be interesting to see if he wins this award. He certainly has built a strong case to do so in a roller-coaster season for the program.

The Broyles Award winner will be announced live at the 30th Annual Broyles Award Ceremony on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at Oaklawn in Hot Springs, Ark.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers (7-4, 4-4) will wrap up the 2025 regular season on Friday, Nov. 28, when they face the Iowa Hawkeyes (4-6, 1-6) at Memorial Stadium. The game will kick off at 11 a.m. CT and can be seen on CBS.
