One of the biggest mysteries in Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the addition of Sadie Sink to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Ever since her casting for the upcoming MCU movie, there have been endless rumors and theories about whom the Stranger Things star is set to play in Tom Holland's 2026 installment.
In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Sink was finally asked more about the Spider-Man: Brand New Day set photos, as she has been filming the Phase 6 movie. The MCU rookie stated, “Tom can wave at the fans because people know who he is, but then you get a glimpse of me, and I'm like a penguin. That'll be the situation for a bit, it seems."
With rumors circling that Sink is Jean Grey in the MCU, she stressed how this was a thing before she had even joined the next Spider-Man film, saying, “That was happening before I even knew that I would be working on this project." Even Sink was shocked about the rumblings, saying, "I was like, ‘Wait! What are people talking about?’”
As the MCU rumors have been shifting rapidly over the months, Sink had a clever response to those who think she is playing Rachel Cole-Alves, an ally to the Punisher, with Jon Bernthal set to reprise the role of Frank Castle. The actress commented, “A lot of people forget that hair color can change, but, yeah, I understand all of the theories.”
She concluded by adding, “People will just have to wait and see. I'm excited for all of it to maybe be put to rest.”
As the Spider-Man: Brand New Day cast have been shooting for months, there have also been theories that she could be the MCU's Gwen Stacy. At the time of this story's publication, Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios have so far not confirmed who she is actually portraying.
The Spider-Man: Brand New Day story is also being heavily kept under wraps, as the Phase 6 entry will be the final MCU movie before Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. Whether or not Holland will be in the Avengers crossovers as Peter Parker is still unknown.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings into theaters on July 31, 2026.
