Paul Scholes has revealed his Premier League title prediction and backed Arsenal summer signing Eberechi Eze to become a ‘£100m player’.

Eze became the first Arsenal player in 47 years to score a north London derby hat-trick in Sunday’s 4-1 victory over Tottenham.

The 27-year-old had only scored two goals in 15 appearances for the Gunners before his treble inspired an emphatic derby win.

Eze’s hat-trick was made even sweeter by the fact he almost joined Tottenham last summer before Arsenal hijacked the deal.

The Gunners paid £60m to sign Eze from Crystal Palace and Scholes believes that could turn out to be a bargain, with the England international destined to become a ‘£100m player’.

‘He just seems like a nice person, doesn’t he? There’s nothing cocky about him, he’s just a brilliant footballer,’ Scholes said of Eze on The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast.

‘It was probably the one thing missing from his game, the goals. When he goes to a club like Arsenal he has to start winning games for them.

‘He needs to win games and points for Arsenal and he’s doing that now. If he can do that consistently he’s a £100m player.’

Fellow Manchester United hero Nicky Butt was also impressed by Eze’s heroics against Tottenham and said he looks like a ‘superstar in the making’.

‘Everyone says he’s a really nice, humble lad,’ said Butt. ‘He looked like a real superstar in the making.

‘It took him a while to get going at Arsenal but the talent is definitely there, he’s clearly a really good player.

‘People have talked about him for ages but looking at him against Spurs, he looks that humble that he maybe doesn’t want to be a superstar – but he’s going to be one I think.’

The north London derby win sent Arsenal six points clear at the top of the Premier League and came after Manchester City and Liverpool both suffered defeats.

Scholes believes the Gunners will go on to win their first league title since 2004 but Butt still has a feeling that Man City will come back into contention.

‘Arsenal look good,’ 11-time Premier League winner Scholes said. ‘Even though it’s still early, they look like they’re going to win it.

‘They looked like a proper team against Spurs, they’ve looked soft before but that’s gone now.’

Butt, meanwhile, added on the title race: ‘We might be sat here in a few weeks time and think Man City are right back in it.

‘I still think Man City come back into it but they’ve got to stop giving silly goals and results away. It will be one of those two.

‘It’s still early and I do think Man City will come back and challenge Arsenal. Arsenal won’t run away with it.’

Premier League leaders Arsenal face second-placed Chelsea in a huge London derby this weekend.

Before that, Mikel Arteta’s side will look to maintain their perfect Champions League record against co-leaders Bayern Munich on Wednesday night.
