The New Orleans Saints have decided to allow Tyler Shough to be their starting quarterback, and while the youngster still has a lot to figure out, his play could be a lot worse than some are making it seem.

On the surface, Shough doesn’t seem like a franchise quarterback, throwing for 829 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions in four starts, but it’s important to give players like him time. The unfortunate part, however, is that he’s already 26 years old.

With a potential need for a quarterback long term, Mike Renner of CBS Sports doesn’t expect the Saints to go that route in the NFL Draft, despite Shough’s age. Instead, he believes the team will select Jordyn Tyson, a wide receiver out of Arizona State.

“For the Saints, it's only going to get worse before it gets better. Because of that, they may choose to pass on this year's quarterback class to give Tyler Shough a little longer leash at the helm. Giving him a No. 1 receiver like Tyson would transform New Orleans' passing attack with a true every-level route winner,” he wrote.

Tyson has proven during his time at Arizona State that there’s a strong argument to be made for him being an elite wide receiver. He’ll have to adjust at the NFL level, as all players do, but he certainly has all the tools to be a star eventually.
