With Shedeur Sanders making his debut for the Cleveland Browns and winning the first game he’s ever started in his career, there’s reason to believe that if he continues to play this way, Cleveland could give him the keys to the offense.

It’ll be interesting to see what the front office and coaching staff want to do, but Sanders played pretty well in Week 12 against the Las Vegas Raiders and certainly deserves more opportunities. He’ll get that in Week 13, but he’ll have to continue doing what he’s doing to get a real chance long term.

Despite that reality, some still believe that Sanders isn’t the future quarterback for the Browns, including Mike Renner of CBS Sports. He recently predicted that the Browns would select Ty Simpson out of the University of Alabama with the third overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.

“Simpson continues to be one of the most impressive downfield passers in college football. His ability to find throwing lanes at the intermediate level is second to none this season. He's thrown for 22 scores compared to only two interceptions this year,” he wrote.

If Sanders plays well for the remainder of the year, it will likely take the Browns out of any quarterback conversations.

However, if there’s any question about what he looks like long term, it might not be the worst idea to bring in another quarterback.

It’s evident that Cleveland needs to improve its quarterback room long term, so Sanders will really have to win the job if he wants to be the guy.
