Lane Kiffin is again dominating college football coaching cycle, and Dan Patrick, like many others, has heard enough.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementOn Tuesday’s episode of The Dan Patrick Show, Patrick delivered a blunt assessment of the Ole Miss coach’s role in fueling speculation about his future, saying the media firestorm is largely of Kiffin’s own making.
“It’s their job, Lane,” Patrick said while interviewing ESPN analyst Louis Riddick. “You put yourself in this position. The coach is not supposed to be the distraction. You are the distraction.”
Kiffin sidestepping questions about potential other SEC destinations. Most notably LSU and Florida, before responding with visible frustration at the growing narrative around Kiffin’s movements and social media behavior.
“These questions aren’t out of nowhere,” Patrick said. “When you send cryptic messages and pictures, and your family’s here, your family’s there, and a flight is going to be here, they’re going there. I’d say that was probably a draw between media and head coach.”

Ole Miss’ postseason potential should be the story and not its coach’s exit strategy.
For now, Kiffin has declined to clarify, leaving the Rebels preparing for Friday’s Egg Bowl under a cloud of uncertainty.
