Just six games into his NFL career, former Michigan Wolverine J.J. McCarthy has been through the wringer. A missed season due to injury, a second injury this season causing him to miss games, and fans and the media calling his play into question. Yes, it has not been pretty for the 22-year-old, but he always remains positive and confident in himself and his team.
When speaking to the media following the Vikings' 23-6 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, McCarthy kept the energy levels high, boasting about his teammates being the reason he remains so confident in this team and himself.
"Confidence is always high no matter what because the guys in that room, because (of) the trust and faith in my abilities," McCarthy said. "It's just we've got to put things together. We've got to keep putting days together, plays together and execute better at the end of the day."
There is a ton of room for J.J. McCarthy to grow. At times this season, he has flashed that ability that made the Vikings use the tenth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft on him. But it might also be fair to say that the runway might not be as long as some might want it to be.
