Give me a lighthearted recap
Does the average person still have that holiday spirit within them? That's about to be put to the test with the return of ABC's long-running hidden camera social experiment show, What Would You Do?. The ever-spiffy John Quiñones and his partner in crime, Sara Haines, have a series of themed scenarios to present as part of a new holiday special designed to figure out who's naughty and who's nice when push comes to shove out in public. Ahead of the premiere next Tuesday, December 2, Collider can exclusively share the official trailer teasing a few of the situations random people will be thrust into, testing their generosity and their willingness to step up for their fellow human beings in need.
The footage shows off three different segments from the one-hour special, ranging from confrontational to heartwarming. Up first is a scenario involving a couple who, in the middle of a crowded restaurant, are pressuring their friend to couple up for their upcoming holiday party since she's the only one without a partner. Such cruel behavior draws a strong reaction from one woman among the bystanders, but the question remains how other patrons would try to respond, or if they would at all. Another scenario sees a mother trying desperately to buy her child a present, but without the money to afford it, prompting a tear-jerking reaction from the woman behind her, who agrees to pay simply because "It's Christmas." It's not just adults being put to the test, however, as children are presented with a chance to help a kid sing "Jingle Bells" in public after his partner failed to show up.
All of the situations presented are just some of the opportunities that What Would You Do? will be presenting to see if the public reacts out of the goodness of their hearts. The hidden cameras will also be rolling on an unhoused veteran being attacked by thieves and a little person being rudely asked intrusive questions. It's all in celebration of the holiday spirit, trying to show that there are plenty of people who are more than willing to embody the generosity and kindness that the season inspires. Given the nature of the show, though, both Quiñones and Haines may be in for some reactions even they could never expect.
ABC Has No Shortage of Holiday-Themed Goodies in Store This Season
As always, ABC has a full slate lined up for the holidays that gets plenty of its biggest programs into the spirit of the season. Everything from Abbott Elementary to America’s Funniest Home Videos, Celebrity Family Feud, Shifting Gears, and more will get special themed episodes, starting with the new installment of What Would You Do?. As early as Thanksgiving, however, the network will be providing plenty of holly-jolly content, including the return of its series of Prep & Landing specials on Sunday, November 30, capped off by the brand-new installment, The Snowball Protocol. After that, the schedule will be littered with holiday classics like Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town, Disney specials like Olaf's Frozen Adventure, and reality competitions like The Great Christmas Light Fight to light up the rest of the season.
What Would You Do? airs its holiday special at 10 p.m. ET on December 2 on ABC. Check out the trailer in the player above.
