The various issues that the Nintendo Switch 2 had on its launch included some software and hardware errors, but these have slowly been getting fixed over time. One big fix was through a surprise update on November 24, 2025, which addressed a couple of niche, but potent, issues the console had. Some games desperately needed the fixes provided in this system patch, but most players will never notice it happened.

Many different system updates are common with any new console, especially the Switch 2 since its launch back in the Summer 2025 timeframe. This handheld console has a variety of features, especially ones tied to online stability and connectivity between systems or networks. To ensure every exciting exclusive for the Switch 2 runs smoothly, players have often needed to install these downloads as soon as they appear.

Patch Notes Explain Repeated Errors Have Been Solved

The patch notes for the latest Switch 2 update upgrades the console to version 21.0.1, fixing many system errors that were prevalent for some players. The individual changes are:

  • Error Code: 2011-0301: Fixed an issue where the error would repeatedly occur on an Nintendo Switch when attempting a system transfer using local communication from a Nintendo Switch system to a Nintendo Switch 2 system.
  • Error Code: 2168-0002: Same as previous notes.
  • Sleep Mode/Airplane Mode: Fixed an issue where sometimes, after waking up the system from Sleep mode or turning off Airplane mode, wireless controllers or Bluetooth audio devices were unable to connect.
  • General: System stability improvements to enhance user experience.

The general fixes serve mainly to enhance a player's online experience with the Switch 2, causing fewer disconnection errors as they play different games. Similarly, the Sleep and Airplane mode issues give players a better chance to use their favorite controllers no matter what shifts in a Switch 2's software settings as they're using it, giving them more flexibility in how they play.

One of the biggest games affected by this patch is Nier: Automata, whose Switch 2 version was known to have many errors. With the system transfer feature fixed, the rest of the game has been updated to run smoothly too on the new console.

However, as players continue to shift Switch data between consoles, the biggest change from this patch was the error code fixes. Players can now smoothly transfer their Switch data to their Switch 2, without running into a common local communication barrier. This will be a great change for players who want to upgrade their games to the newest console, but keep their save date intact in the process.

It Doesn't Really Do Much (For Some Players)

Not Everyone Will Reap The Benefits Of The System Update

Most of these changes from Nintendo's silent patch will go unnoticed, like several bug fixes seen in updates for your favorite games. That being said, much like other transfer changes for the Switch 2, the players these adjustments affect will no doubt be happy at their greatest obstacle to fun being removed.

Continued stability improvements will be small, yet felt as players continue to push the console to its limits. Not everyone is going to put their Switch 2 through higher demand, though, so many won't even notice the small tweaks Nintendo has made to improve the usability, UX, or other aspects of the handheld device's design.

Being knowledgeable of these patches can help you understand the limitations of your console, giving you more awarness to how it works as you run into unique problems. Hopefully, Nintendo will continue to push patches like this one for the Nintendo Switch 2 quickly, especially as the holiday season undoubtedly tests how much the new console can accomplish.
