The injury-stricken New England Patriots announced multiple roster moves on Tuesday, including placing cornerback Alex Austin on injured reserve, signing veteran guard Bill Murray (no, not the actor) to the practice squad and releasing running back Jonathan Ward from the practice squad.
They also announced that they have signed veteran offensive tackle Thayer Munford Jr. to the 53-man roster from the Cleveland Browns' practice squad.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementIt's no surprise seeing the Patriots make moves along the offensive front after their two rookie starters, left tackle Will Campbell and left guard Jared Wilson, went down with injuries. Campbell is reportedly believed to have a sprained MCL, and Wilson is dealing with a high ankle sprain.
No move has been made to place either player on injured reserve yet. That's a good sign when it comes to the team's expectations of getting them back at some point this season.
Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels has experience working with Munford during his run as the Las Vegas Raiders' head coach. Meanwhile, Murray gives the team added depth at the guard position behind Ben Brown and Caedan Wallace.
