Mondelez invests in Poland biscuits plant

Mondelez International is looking to expand a biscuit factory in Poland and make the site its largest in the country.

The Oreo maker is investing 620m zlotys ($169m) at its facility in Płońsk in central Poland.

The project, scheduled to be completed next year, is expected to increase production capacity by 30% and generate 180 additional jobs. At present, the plant employs about 700 people.

Operations in Płońsk began in 1976 with three production lines. The site has since grown into a biscuit hub for Mondelez in Europe and is responsible for around 60% of European volumes of the Barni brand, sold in Poland as Lubisie. The new outlay will see a dedicated production line built for the Lubisie brand.

Adam Kamiński, director of biscuit factories in Poland at Mondelez, said: “Thanks to its strategic location, Poland today plays a key role in Mondelez International’s supply chain and the investment in Płońsk is an expression of the ambition to be a leader in the snacks market."

The investment package also covers a second line for Milka biscuits, the construction of a new raw-materials warehouse and upgrades to site infrastructure.

According to the company, the modernisation is designed to enhance efficiency at the plant by 30% and bolster safety measures.

Mondelez operates seven factories in Poland, along with a research and development centre in Bielany Wrocławskie that has its own production line.
