One of Jason Statham’s most beloved movies from recent years is finally back on streaming after unexpectedly losing its home last month. Last year, Jason Statham teamed up with Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Games) and Jeremy Irons (Batman v Superman) in The Beekeeper, the conspiracy thriller following a former operative who is called back into action when someone close to him is killed. The Beekeeper was inexplicably removed from Prime Video last month, but the streamer has since rectified this and once again made the movie available toall subscribers.
Jason Statham has starred in some major action blockbusters over the years, thanks to his roles in franchises such as The Expendables and Fast & Furious, but The Beekeeper is one of his biggest original action hits. Amazon MGM spent only $40 million on the film, which is on the lower end for modern action blockbusters, but it grossed over $160 million worldwide. Critics reviewed The Beekeeper at a 71% approval rating on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes, but the film earned a Verified Hot 94% on the audience-driven Popcornmeter. Of Statham’s recent actioners during the latter stage of his career, it’s certainly the highest-rated.
David Ayer directed The Beekeeper with a script from Kurt Wimmer, and it marked the first time he worked with action icon Jason Statham — fair to say it was a successful first team up. The duo reunited earlier this year for A Working Man, which also stars David Harbour (Stranger Things) and Michael Peña (End of Watch). The film is currently streaming on both Prime Video and Amazon MGM+.
When Does The Beekeeper 2 Come Out?
What made The Beekeeper’s removal from Prime Video last month even more puzzling was the timing. The studio is hard at work filming its sequel, The Beekeeper 2. The film will see stars Jason Statham and Jeremy Irons return to their roles from the first movie, and it’s also added other stars such as Pom Klementieff (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Adam Copeland (Percy Jackson and the Olympians) to its cast. Amazon has yet to announce when The Beekeeper 2 will be released, but it will likely land in the second half of 2026. Statham has two movies, Shelter and Mutiny, scheduled to be released before then.
