Bane fans are finally getting their dream role for the DC villain in Batman's next movie after a major update. The Dark Knight might have the best Rogues' Gallery in all comics. Batman's live-action movies have both Bruce Wayne's animated films and series have shown that time and again. Villains like the Joker, Catwoman, the Penguin, Two-Face, and more are iconic.
Bane is firmly in the hall of Batman's biggest villains. However, he has not always been dealt the best hand when it comes to Batman adaptations. That is about to change. In live-action, Batman's next movie is Robert Pattinson's The Batman 2, which arrives in 2027. However, Bruce Wayne appears in an animated movie before then, and Bane will be in tow.
Batman's Next Movie Arrives In 2026 With A Formidable Villain

Batman's next movie is not The Batman 2 or the new DC Universe's upcoming The Brave and the Bold reboot. Instead, a new version of the Dark Knight will rise to star in a 4-movie franchise, though that happens in animation, not live-action. DC has announced Batman: Knightfall Part 1: Knightfall, which will be released at some point in 2026.
The first of four animated Batman movies has also had its synopsis revealed, and it spotlights Bane. The villain will free "Batman's entire Rogue's Gallery from Arkham Asylum," just like Bane famously did in the original Batman: Knightfall storyline from DC Comics. Bane is set to be the main villain of the next Batman movie.
The Knightfall storyline is the classic event that saw Bane break Batman's back. Before doing so, he releases Batman's Rogues' Gallery from Arkham, creating a gauntlet that Batman has to go through as he tries to put away all of Gotham City's villains. When Bruce is exhausted, Bane comes in to finish it, defeating Batman and sending him on a long road to recovery.
Bane Being Batman: Knightfall's Main Villain Is What DC Fans Have Been Waiting For

That story should sound familiar to non-comic book readers, too, given that director Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises uses elements of Knightfall and Bane's role in it for Tom Hardy's version of the Batman villain. Sadly, The Dark Knight Rises was not quite on the same level as Nolan's previous Batman movies, though it was still an entertaining film.
As such, fans have been anticipating when Bane would get to shine as the main villain of what could be an all-around great Batman movie since 2012. 2026 will finally give Bane that prominent role. If the animated movie stays true to the scope, tone, and story of Knightfall, then this could be the best Bane adaptation in a Batman movie to date.
