Godzilla fans have reason to be excited about the coming month, as December comes bearing good news for the franchise. The Monsterverse has grown considerably over the past few years. Apple TV+'s Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is now expanding the franchise on TV, with season 2 of the hit series set to arrive on February 27, 2026.
Aside from the franchise's future on TV, with the Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2 trailer out now, the Monsterverse will continue on the big screen. The franchise's next film is Godzilla x Kong: Supernova, which will swing into theaters on March 26, 2027. Before then, those wanting to catch up with the king of monsters just got some exciting news.
According to Netflix, 2014's Godzilla and its sequel, 2019's Godzilla: King of the Monsters, will be coming to the streaming service on December 1. As such, fans will be able to watch both of Godzilla's solo Monsterverse movies on Netflix soon, paving the way for the franchise's next step with Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2 on Apple TV+ next year.
Godzilla's atomic breath kiss of death in Godzilla 2014
2014's Godzilla boasts an MCU duo as its main human characters. Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen played a couple in the Godzilla movie a year before they joined the Marvel Studios franchise as the Maximoff twins, Wanda and Pietro, in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Godzilla holds a 76% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes, earning the Certified Fresh accolade.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters was met by an 83% Rotten Tomatoes score from audiences, with the movie's arrival on Netflix coming at the perfect time. One of the main characters of the film is Millie Bobby Brown's Madison Russell. Netflix subscribers will, of course, know the actress very well, given she leads one of the streamer's most popular series.
With Stranger Things season 5 releasing its three parts over the last week of November and then in December, the timing is perfect for anyone who wants to get their Millie Bobby Brown fix to discover the Monsterverse. Madison Russell is pretty central to the events of Godzilla: King of the Monsters.
Though unconnected to the two Godzilla movies arriving on Netflix on December 1, subscribers can also check out another Godzilla movie, the Oscar-winning Godzilla Minus One. The 2023 Japanese movie has been lauded for its depiction of large-scale action with visceral CGI and human performances. In short, Netflix is the perfect landing stop for Godzilla fans.
