Chaminade looked like it would recapture some of its giant-killing magic of the past during the first half of Monday’s Maui Invitational game against Washington State.

The Silverswords built a 52-41 halftime lead, only to see the Cougars roar back for a 90-85 win to advance to today’s semifinals.

Three WSU players who didn’t start led the comeback. Ace Glass scored 26 points, Rihards Vavers tallied 25, hitting 7-for-12 from 3, and Eemeli Yalaho chipped in 10 points and nine rebounds as the Cougs outscored the Silverswords 49-33 in the second half.

Kent King had 20 points, hitting eight of 12 field-goal attempts, and grabbed 10 rebounds for Chaminade.

Nathan Medina had 15 and Roland Banks II 14 for Chaminade.

Medina’s jumper gave Chaminade a 54-41 lead at 19 :53 in the second half, but WSU slowly chipped away, going on a 9-2 run to cut it to 56-50.

Glass scored 17 in the second half, including a jumper that put WSU up for good at 62-60 with 13 :13 left to play.

Vavers had 14 second-half points, including four 3-pointers.

Southern California 70, Boise State 67 Rodney Rice scored a game-high 27 points, including a tiebreaking three-point play, as the Trojans (5-0 ) defeated the Broncos (4-2 ) in the quarterfinals of the Maui Invitational.

Chad Baker-Mazara added 11 points and a game-high eight rebounds for the Trojans, who will meet Seton Hall—which upset No. 23 North Carolina State 85-74 in the tournament opener—in the semifinals today.

Javan Buchanan scored 18 for Boise State, but his potential tying 3-pointer at the final buzzer bounced off the front of the rim.

Rice made a floating jump shot in the lane to break a tie and was fouled with 14.8 seconds remaining. He converted the free throw to put USC up 68-65.

Boise State’s Andrew Meadow came up short on a 3-pointer with eight seconds left and the ball went out of bounds. But Rice was called for an offensive foul on the inbounds pass with six seconds to go. Rice committed another foul before the Broncos could inbound the ball, with Neto making both free throws to make it a one-point game.

Jordan Marsh made two free throws with 4.2 seconds left to extend USC’s lead to 70-67.

Arizona State 87, Texas 86 Moe Odum capped a career-high 36-point effort with the game-winning 3-pointer, powering the Sun Devils past the Longhorns in the nightcap of the Maui Invitational.

Odum shot 6-for-12 from 3-point range on the night, with none of his triples any bigger than the contested attempt he knocked down with 10.6 seconds remaining. The hoop punctuated a rollicking conclusion to the contest.

Arizona State (5-1 ) rallied from a 10-point deficit in the last 71 ⁄2 minutes. Texas (4-2 ) seemingly took control with a 7-0 run, completed when Matas Vokietaitis pushed the lead to double-digits on an and-one bucket near the rim.

The basket accounted for two of Texas’ 46 points scored in the paint. Vokietaitis finished with 15 points.

However, he missed the ensuing foul shot and Arizona State responded when Odum erupted to score 10 of the Sun Devils’ points in a 13-2 run. The burst put Arizona State on top 79-78 with 5 :06 to go, setting up a back-and-forth finale that included four ties down the stretch.
