Liverpool succeeded in signing Mohamed Salah up to a new contract at the back end of last season.

The Egyptian King’s deal had been due to expire in summer 2025 - but a Richard Hughes masterclass saw the forward agree an extension to 2027.

The new deal costs Liverpool £400k per week - and right now it’s hard to argue that the Reds are getting value for money.

The 33-year-old hasn’t been at his best and the process of moving on from Salah could commence as soon as next summer.

Talks intensify over Salah exit

Arne Slot’s Premier League champions have been linked with plenty of potential replacements - including Michael Olise and Antoine Semenyo - with a general sense building that Salah could be sold.

Talk in recent days has ramped up over a Salah exit - just as the all-star winger is about to embark on a potential month-long stay at the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Factor in the gruelling demands of a FIFA World Cup next summer and you could be forgiven for thinking that the club may be worried about Salah’s long-term durability.

Two Saudi clubs battle for Salah

The latest rumours on talkSPORT suggest that TWO Saudi Arabian clubs are in the frame for Salah ahead of next summer.

Al-Hilal - who signed Darwin Nunez from the Reds in summer 2025 - remain keen having narrowly failed to lure Salah to the SPL in the past.

The other team are the ambitious Al-Qadsiah - who currently have the likes of Julian Weigl and Mateo Retegui on their roster.

“Saudi deal-makers remain committed to recruiting the Egyptian superstar at some point,” the report reads.

But another intriguing prospect has opened up for Salah in the shape of San Diego in MLS.

MLS expert thinks Salah will go to San Diego

Egyptian billionaire Mohamed Mansour owns the Californian team - with MLS expert Tom Bogert claiming that SDFC would be the most likely American destination for Salah.

“From what I’ve understood at least – and I’m not suggesting that this is definitely going to happen – I’m just saying, if Salah comes to MLS, I would put a lot of chips in the pile that it’s going to be San Diego,” he said on YouTube.

Salah has been with Liverpool since 2017 - playing a significant role in all of the club’s major successes since then - including two Premier League titles and the Champions League.

Whether it’s next summer or as a free agent in 2027, he will eventually leave Anfield as perhaps the greatest player in modern history.
