Previous Page Next Page Key Points summary__ai-icon- ITVX adds BBC’s Little Women miniseries, perfect for festive viewing
- The adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s novel stars Maya Hawke, Emily Watson, and Angela Lansbury
- The miniseries has received praise for its emotional storytelling, scoring high on Rotten Tomatoes
ITV has added all three episodes of a festive miniseries that’s already been labelled a weepie watch.
You may have read Louisa May Alcott’s classic Little Women novel or watched the Greta Gerwig adaptation (or even the Winona Ryder one that came before it), but have you seen the TV series?
If that’s a no, there’s no better time for a show that’s wrapped up in sentimental Christmassyness.
The coming-of-age tale follows four attached-at-the-hip sisters living through the Civil War and its aftermath.
The TV adaptation originally aired on the BBC with a stellar cast, including Maya Hawke as protofeminist Jo March, Emily Watson as the March matriarch and Murder, She Wrote icon Angela Lansbury as the looming, monied Aunt March.
And of course, there is Amy. Infamous Amy, who burns Jo’s manuscript and ends up with everything despite (arguably) not really deserving it. No shade. Here, she’s played by Kathryn Newton.

Plus, there’s Michael Gambon as Mr Laurence (who takes a shine to sickly, piano-playing Beth) and Jonah Hauer-King as the lovelorn Laurie.
ITV has promised ‘festive feels’ with the new version of the classic novel, which finds the March sisters facing down a bitterly cold New England winter, with the family too cash-strapped to afford Christmas presents.
With their father away at war, it’s a trying time. But stick with us, it’s not all yuletide doom and gloom, with a stand-out Hummel family scene, which sees them on the receiving end of the March family’s very touching kindness.

This adaptation holds an 81% ‘Certified Fresh’ score on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, with an even higher 100% score from the general audience.
