The annual Kern County High School Girls Volleyball All-Star showcase will take place tonight with two matches, one at 6 and another at 7:30 at Centennial High School’s gymnasium.

The four teams are comprised of players from the South Yosemite Horizon, Mountain, River and Valley leagues as well as some from the South Sequoia League and High Desert League.

Team names for each squad correspond to a local high school coach who will be guiding the players. This year’s all-star coaches are Morgan Dake (Liberty), Kim Harper (Centennial), Paola Canchan (South) and Brandi Randle (Arvin).

The first match is Team Randle vs. Team Canchan, followed by Team Dake vs. Team Harper. Both matches will be a best-two-out-of-three to determine the winner.

Bakersfield Condors

The Condors play a 6:30 game tonight against the Tucson Roadrunners at Dignity Health Arena. Bakersfield is currently in sixth place in the AHL’s Pacific Division with 20 points and has an 8-6-4 record. Tucson comes into town in ninth place with an 8-9-2 record and 18 points. The standings are tight among several teams. Five points separate third-place Ontario from Tucson’s spot. A Bakersfield victory in this game could move the team up to as high as fourth place.

After tonight’s game, the Condors will begin a three-game stint with the Henderson Silver Knights with road games Friday and Saturday before returning home on Dec. 11 for a 6:30 p.m. game. Bakersfield also defeated Henderson 7-4 this past Saturday.

HS Winter Season Sports

High school boys and girls basketball, boys and girls soccer and boys and girls wrestling seasons are fully underway around Kern County. Some of the student-athletes who were participating in fall sports are already a few weeks into the winter season.

Late November and December are typically big for holiday tournaments as the recent Frontier girls basketball and boys basketball Highway 58 at Mira Monte took place. More locally hosted tournaments are happening soon, such as Bakersfield Christian boys basketball hosting the Meet in the Middle Classic, Thursday through Saturday.

Joining tournament host BCHS in the six-team, Southern California vs. Northern California field are Bakersfield’s Legacy Christian and Newport Beach’s Pacifica Christian for the SoCal side and Fairfield’s Vanden, Stockton’s Weston Ranch and Sacramento’s Destiny Christian representing Northern California.

The Eagles will play at 4 p.m. Thursday against Weston Ranch, at 7 p.m. Friday against Destiny Christian and against Vanden at 3 p.m. Saturday. Legacy Christian plays Destiny Christian at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Vanden at 4 p.m. Friday and Weston Ranch at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

The North High boys basketball team, which went 4-0 in the Highway 58 Tournament but lost a pair of road games against Oxnard and San Joaquin Memorial over the weekend, will play three games in the Moanalua Basketball Invitational today through Saturday in Maui, Hawaii. The Stars face Nankuli at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Iolani at 8 p.m. Friday and Mililani at 4:30 p.m. Saturday. North will return and host its annual Lloyd Williams Shootout, Dec. 10-13.

Other tournament events this week include South High hosting a soccer tournament Friday and Saturday, Golden Valley High hosting a girls wrestling event on Friday and Bakersfield hosting a boys wrestling event on Saturday.
