Dec. 3—MITCHELL — Mitchell High School senior Carter McCormick has formally signed on to play two sports at Dakota Wesleyan University.
McCormick was part of a National Signing Day event on Wednesday at MHS. He plans to play both golf and baseball at the collegiate level.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementMcCormick, a key member of the Kernel boys' golf team, contributed to strong team performances during the fall 2025 season, including a seventh-place team finish at the Class AA state tournament. McCormick posted three top-10 individual finishes, and helped boost the Kernel squad to break the school record with a team score of 291 at their home invitational on Sept. 19.
On the baseball diamond as an outfielder and left-handed pitcher, McCormick hit .291 and had an on-base percentage of .458 in the most recent Mitchell High School spring season, with 11 RBIs and 14 runs scored, plus eight stolen bases. On the mound, he had 24 innings on the mound and eight starts, with 22 strikeouts and a 3.21 earned-run average, holding opposing hitters to a .263 average.
