Pre-Match

Salah riding the pine for a second consecutive match. Well, if it’s another win, we won’t complain (though he might).

First Half

Not much has happened in the first 20 minutes. Indeed, there have been a total of two shots, both from Liverpool, totally a cumulative 0.03 expected goals. I guess that’s better than conceding. Baby steps!

Not much else happened for the rest of the half either. Well, if Liverpool have decided that nothing should happen in the first half of matches, that’s certainly a better approach than doing what they have been, namely booting it in their own goal after 10 or 15 minutes and chasing the rest of the match.

Second Half

Salah comes on as a halftime sub, with Cody Gakpo—who was apparently playing—coming off.

Just after the hour mark, Slot brings Gomez off for Curtis Jones.

Sunderland open the scoring from a speculative shot from outside the box that took a nasty deflection on the way, just out of reach of a diving Alisson. Typical.

Slot makes another second half sub, bringing on Ekitike for Mac Allister. I probably would’ve hooked Isak, who’s been largely uninvolved in procedings tonight, but that’s jsut me.

Hey! Liverpool equalized! And it was Wirtz doing a good thing and actually getting a bit lucky for once! Yay. Oh, and because we can’t have nice things, they’ve changed it to an own goal.

Slot makes a final roll of the dice, bringing on Kerkez and Chiesa for Robertson and Isak.

In stoppage time, Liverpool were almost caught out pouring bodies forward, but thankfully Chiesa and Ali did just enough to get back and put the Sunderland attacker off enough to keep the score level.

Final Thoughts

Well. Liverpool draw. At home. Which is at least not a loss? So. That’s something, I guess.
