Makuochi Echebiri is a News Writer for Collider. He has been interested in creative writing from as far back as high school, and he would consume pretty much anything that’s film or TV. However, his truest love lies in the presence of historical epics and thrillers.
Lured by the brilliance of Middle Earth from an early age both in print and on screen, his palate has since expanded to other realms including Westeros, Kattegat among others. He also possesses a great appetite for the stories that emanate from the vastness of space. Even though he is no Avenger.
Obsessed with storytelling and having works of his own that have yet to make it to print, he is content to use that ability to communicate to as many as are reachable. In his spare time, he looks out for avenues where he can aid people aside from his plans to reign over this earthly realm. Yes…you heard that first here.

There seems to be an increased appetite for WWII thrillers lately, and that could be thanks in part to the recent premiere of Sisu’s highly anticipated sequel, Sisi: Road to Revenge. The movie, regarded by many as the greatest World War II film released in the past decade, has been on many people’s lips, and all the buzz surrounding it could be tied tothe resurgence of other war-themed titles on streaming. One standout example is SAS: Rogue Heroes, a fan-favorite series set during the era, which has climbed back into the top 10 streaming charts after previously slipping off.
Created for TV by Steven Knight, the acclaimed mind behind the beloved crime thriller series, Peaky Blinders, SAS: Rogue Heroes delivers the sharp, gritty, and propulsive storytelling that has become his signature. The series, which debuted on BBC One in October 2022, is described as "a dramatized account of how the world’s greatest Special Forces unit, the SAS, was formed under extraordinary circumstances in the darkest days of World War Two." It became an instant hit among critics and viewers alike, praised for its grounded, realistic approach to Ben Macintyre's 2016 book of the same name, which chronicles the real events that shaped the legendary unit.
SAS: Rogue Heroes boasts a rare 100% Rotten Tomatoes score from critics, a distinction few series earn, and an equally impressive 86% audience rating. Its strong reception led to an inevitable Season 2 renewal, which premiered in January 2025 and raised the stakes even further as it followed the unit’s operations across the European theater of World War II. Fans are in for even more thrills as the series was officially renewed for Season 3 in October. While fans await updates on the next chapter, the acclaimed drama is seemingly growing in popularity as it's once again surged into the Top 10 charts on MGM+.
What Other Shows Are Trending on MGM+?
While SAS: Rogue Heroes is also available to stream on HBO Max, it's on MGM+ that the series has had the most success, where it sits alongside several of the platform’s most acclaimed titles. The streamer is perhaps best known for the sci-fi horror hit, From which has been stable on the charts since its debut as it gears up for a much-anticipated Season 4 return.
Currently, sitting at the top spot is Robin Hood, the new historical action series led by Game of Thrones and The Lord of the Rings star Sean Bean. Historical dramas seem to be the streamer's bread and butter, as another of its underrated epics, The Winter King, which has drawn favorable comparisons to HBO's House of the Dragon, also recently broke into the charts.
SAS: Rogue Heroes stars Sex Education's Connor Swindells, as well as Jack O'Connell, Sofia Boutella, and Dominic West, among others. Season 1 starred Game of Thrones alum Alfie Allen. You can watch Seasons 1 and 2 of the series now on MGM+ and stay tuned for updates on Season 3.
