A controversial British spy thriller is killing it on Netflix within just one day of its arrival on the platform, gaining a resurgence in popularity. There are a number of popular modern British spy thrillers on TV, from Apple TV's Slow Horses season 5 to the upcoming The Night Manager season 2, produced by BBC One and Prime Video.
However, one divisive entry in the genre is Killing Eve. Originally airing on BBC America, the show follows Eve Polastri (Sandra Oh), who joins a covert MI6 group hunting down Villanelle (Jodie Comer), an assassin working for a secret organization. The show aired in 2018, with its first two seasons receiving critical acclaim. However, seasons 3 and 4 were less praised.
Now, FlixPatrol reports that Killing Eve is the Number 8 Netflix series in the world as of December 3, 2025. The show has made it onto the Top 10 charts of multiple countries just one day after its international release on the platform. Its highest positions are at Number 3 in Greece and Vietnam, something that could still change.

When it first premiered, the British thriller was heavily praised by critics and audiences alike, citing its twists on the typical cat-and-mouse game of two spies that come into conflict with each other. Season 2 garnered the same level of praise, especially because of its feminist approach to the story and typified tropes of the genre.
However, the final two seasons didn't garner as much praise, with season 4 currently sitting at a disappointing 52% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. (all other seasons are Certified Fresh). Killing Eve's series finale drew particular ire from fans and critics alike, who saw it as an unfitting end to the show and disappointing way to wrap up its storylines.
Killing Eve is based on the Villanelle novel series by Luke Jennings.
Even so, it hasn't stopped a resurgence in interest for the show in international markets. Despite the negative reception the back half of the show received, its unique approach to the spy genre, as well as the relationship between Eve and Villanelle, stands out regardless of quality. Whether it'll keep its top spot on Netflix, though, remains uncertain.
For now, Killing Eve is making its mark on Netflix around the world, drawing in a big enough audience to make it into the global Top 10. How long it can maintain this position still remains unclear. But, with four seasons and a number of impactful story twists throughout, the show could remain engaging for some time to come.
