Terence Crawford has been stripped of his WBC super middleweight title.

“Bud” refused to pay the sanctioning fees, despite a reduction from 3% to 0.6%, after defeating Canelo Alvarez earlier this year in Las Vegas. As a result, No. 2-ranked Hamzah Sheeraz (22-1, 18 KOs) will fight to unify the vacant title against interim super middleweight champion Christian Mbilli (29-0-1, 24 KOs).

That’s according to a new report from ESPN.

“The WBC sent multiple communications to champion Crawford, his manager, and his legal counsel,” the sanctioning body said in today’s statement. “Very unfortunately, the WBC did not receive an acknowledgment of receipt nor any response to any of those communications. The WBC had no choice but to act.”

Crawford also stiffed WBC on his post-fight fees after this 2024 victory.

The 38 year-old Crawford (42-0, 31 KOs) has not commented on the WBC’s decision. Probably because “Bud” is too busy arguing with haters on social media. As of this writing, the official WBC website still lists Crawford as reigning champion, though you can expect that status to change in the coming days.
