Quentin Tarantino has finally unveiled the list of his favorite movies of all time, and while there are some surprising additions, one that didn’t catch anyone off guard was Dunkirk. Released in 2017, the WWII movie follows Allied soldiers as they’re surrounded by the enemy and entrenched in a fierce battle in the heat of the war. The film was written and directed by Christopher Nolan, and it’s widely viewed as one of his most underrated features. After Tarantino proclaimed Dunkirk his favorite WWII movie, the film is currently blowing up on VOD, charting in the top 10 in several countries around the world.
Dunkirk has plenty of stars with a spot on the call sheet, but it doesn’t rely on their stardom to be a great movie. While its biggest stars in large roles are Barry Keoghan and Mark Rylance, it does feature other major talent, such as Cillian Murphy, Tom Hardy, Kenneth Branagh, and even James D’Arcy. It’s also widely viewed as the breakout role for Tom Glynn-Carney, who now features in the prominent role of King Aegon Targaryen in the first Game of Thrones spin-off series, House of the Dragon. Glynn-Carney will return in Season 3 this summer.
Dunkirk is, unfortunately, not streaming anywhere in America. The film earned scores of 92% from critics and 81% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, and it grossed over $500 million at the box office. However, it is available to rent or purchase on VOD for as cheap as $3.99. For Christopher Nolan, Dunkirk was his first movie after Interstellar, the 2014 sci-fi masterpiece starring Matthew McConaughey. He didn’t return to the big screen for three years after Dunkirk, but his return came in the form of Tenet, the controversial sci-fi movie led by Robert Pattinson and John David Washington.
Will The Odyssey Trailer Play Before Avatar 3?
Christopher Nolan’s next movie will be The Odyssey, the historical epic based on Homer’s famous tale. The film will be released in theaters around the world on July 17, 2026, and there are rumors that a new trailer for the film will play ahead of Avatar: Fire & Ash. The new sci-fi epic from James Cameron arrives on December 19, and it won’t be until that weekend when we know for sure if a new Odyssey trailer is indeed coming. The Odyssey has already wrapped filming, leaving the post-production plenty of time to polish visual effects and make sure everything is up to standard. The first Odyssey trailer was released earlier this year ahead of Jurassic World: Rebirth.
Stay tuned to Collider for more streaming updates and coverage.
