Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone empire keeps expanding — and this week, the most mysterious branch of the franchise finally showed signs of life. The Madison, the Michelle Pfeiffer–led neo-Western spinoff, quietly shut down portions of downtown Dallas on Tuesday night to shoot scenes disguised as New York City, signaling that Season 2 is already underway before Season 1 has even been given a premiere date. Yes, this is an odd one — they're already on Season 2 despite Season 1 being nothing more than a whisper.

According to local reports, the show filmed between 6:30 p.m. and 2 a.m. across several blocks of Main Street, with additional lane and sidewalk closures stretching through Ervay Street. Production warnings emphasized that the set was closed to the public — but the city transformation was unmistakable. NYPD vehicles, urban taxi props, and exterior resets turned North Texas into Manhattan for the evening. It mirrors Sheridan’s other spinoff, Dutton Ranch, which recently used Dallas’ Hall Arts district to stand in for Chicago, while his current hit, Landman, is based in the Lone Star State. Sheridan may shoot in Texas, but narratively, he’s everywhere at once.

What Is 'The Madison' About?

The Madison centers on a wealthy New York family uprooting their lives after tragedy and resettling in rural Montana. Pfeiffer stars as Stacy Clyburn, a grief-shaken matriarch trying to rebuild, while Matthew Fox appears opposite her as Paul, a self-sufficient outdoorsman who’s very much the anti-Manhattan stereotype. The series is billed as part of the Yellowstone universe, and was initially referred to as a sequel series — but how exactly it connects remains one of Sheridan’s favorite unsolved mysteries. In September, one of the worst kept secrets around, Kurt Russell was finally confirmed to be joining the cast.

The Madison has been in the works for a long time. This was the series that initially had Matthew McConaughey attached before scheduling differences caused him to depart the project. The cast already includes Danielle Vasinova, Ben Schnetzer (rumored by fans to be this series’ “Rip Wheeler” archetype), Patrick J. Adams, Beau Garrett, Amiah Miller, and Elle Chapman. Schnetzer plays a rancher; Chapman and Garrett portray Pfeiffer’s daughters — the entitled Paige McIntosh and the dry-witted, newly divorced Abigail Reese. Meanwhile, Adams plays Paige’s investment-banker husband, while Russell's role is currently undisclosed.

Stay tuned to Collider for more updates on Taylor Sheridan's expanding empire.
