LSU baseball head coach Jay Johnson opened up about his relationship with newly appointed athletic director Verge Ausberry. When Johnson was hired at LSU, Ausberry was in a deputy role.
"He and I have had a great relationship from day one," Johnson said. "Full transparency, when I interviewed, I felt like he was probably the first person that was like, 'I'm on board with this guy.' I could sense it."

A former LSU football player and Louisiana native, Ausberry played a role in bringing Johnson and women's basketball head coach Kim Mulkey to Baton Rouge.
"I have a lot of confidence in him," Johnson said. "He's made us a priority. He knows how much baseball's a priority here. I have a lot of faith that we can improve in the ways that we need to improve as a program, and we do. I'm excited to do that with him."
