Wiffen is seeking to defend the title he won in 2023, having been forced to settle for bronze in the 400m freestyle on Tuesday.

Team GB's Jack McMillan took that title and the Belfast man was the fastest qualifier in the 200m freestyle heats on Wednesday in a time of 1:41.41, finishing ahead of fellow GB Olympic winning relay team mates Duncan Scott and Matt Richards.

However, as only two swimmers from a country are allowed to move forward to Wednesday evening's semi-finals, defending champion Richards misses out,

Also on Wednesday, Ireland's Ellen Walsh set a new Irish senior record in the 100m individual medley with a time of 58.80 and will race in Wednesday evening's semi-finals.
