Allowing himself only one movie per director, he chose the likes of Richard Linklater’s School Of Rock, Battle Royale by Kinji Fukasaku, and Jackass: The Movie in the lower half of his best films list.

As he moved into his top 10 films, Edgar Wright‘s Shaun Of The Dead was in ninth spot, Zodiac by David Fincher was in sixth place and Paul Thomas Anderson‘s There Will Be Blood was at number five.

Rounding out the top three were Soffia Coppola’s Lost In Translation, Toy Story 3 at two and Ridley Scott‘s Black Hawk Down at number one.

In the past, Tarantino has expressed love for the Toy Story franchise saying he’s a “big fan” of the animated movies although he previously said he has “no desire” to watch Toy Story 4.

Speaking about Black Hawk Down and his reason for choosing it as his favourite film, Tarantino said: “I liked it when I first saw it, but I actually think it was so intense that it stopped working for me, and I didn’t carry it with me the way that I should’ve.

“Since then, I’ve seen it a couple of times, not a bunch of times, but I think it’s a masterwork, and one of the things I love so much about it is how this is the only movie that actually goes completely for an Apocalypse Now sense of purpose and visual effect and feeling, and I think it achieves it.”

Quentin Tarantino’s Top 20 films of the 21st century are:

1. Black Hawk Down 2. Toy Story 3 3. Lost In Translation 4. Dunkirk 5. There Will Be Blood 6. Zodiac 7. Unstoppable 8. Mad Max: Fury Road 9. Shaun Of The Dead 10. Midnight In Paris 11. Battle Royale 12. Big Bad Wolves 13. Jackass: The Movie 14. School Of Rock 15. The Passion Of The Christ 16. The Devil’s Rejects 17. Chocolate 18. Moneyball 19. Cabin Fever 20. West Side Story

It comes ahead of a new edit of the entire saga Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair, which is being released this Friday (December 5).

Tarantino and Uma Thurman also recently worked with Fortnite to make Yuki’s Revenge, a short film animated with the Unreal game engine that tells a lost chapter from the original film.
