Erling Haaland has joined the illustrious Premier League 100 Club – in record-breaking time.

Haaland enters the illustrious Premier League 100 Club

He became a member after hitting his century in the remarkable 4-3 away win at Fulham.

That meant he bagged 100 goals in 111 games – 13 quicker than previous fastest hotshot Alan Shearer.

The City striker becomes the 35th player to hit the landmark and the seventh inductee to have played for the Blues.

He follows in the footsteps of Andrew Cole, Sergio Aguero, Frank Lampard, Robbie Fowler, Nicolas Anelka and Raheem Sterling.

We spoke to a selection of current members who were quick to offer their congratulations to the latest inductee.

Quiz: Haaland’s City career so far

No.1 - ALAN SHEARER

From the first inductee to the latest, I’d like to offer my congratulations to Erling Haaland - Welcome to the Premier League 100 Club!

And the big man is also now the quickest to a century of goals!

I needed only 124 games to reach that tally, scoring the decisive goal against Tottenham in December 1995.

Now, 30 years later Erling has managed it in just 111 games – that really is outrageous!

His numbers are so, so impressive. But above the numbers, I love everything about him as a striker.

I love his ruthlessness in front of goal. I recognise how much scoring goals means to him. And I love that he doesn’t care how he scores – as long as the ball goes in. That attitude is top-class and everything you want as a forward!

Win one of four signed Haaland shirts to celebrate his 100 Premier League goals

People questioned whether he could hit the ground running in the Premier League or whether it would take him some time to settle.

We know the answer to that one after six major team honours and a mountain of individual ones! He’s simply had a huge, huge impact on the Premier League and on Manchester City, too.

Personally speaking, I never doubted he’d do what he’s done. It also helps working with an incredible manager and he’s been in a team that’s won the Treble and Four-in-a-Row over the past few seasons since he joined so that shows the quality of Manchester City.

From my perspective, I was just so pleased to see him come to our country and our league in the first place.

Once again, congratulations Erling!

No.6 - SERGIO AGUERO

Welcome to the Premier League 100 Club, Erling - it’s good to have another Blue in the ranks!

100 goals in 111 games - that was fast!

To reach your century in what I’m told is a record time is an unbelievable achievement.

I always knew you were going to score many, many goals in the City shirt.

But to reach your century in the opening few months of only your fourth season, we cannot underestimate this.

Congratulations Erling – and here’s to many more goals in the blue shirt.

No.9 - ROBBIE FOWLER

Congratulations to Erling Haaland on joining the 100 Club.

This is just the latest landmark in his career so far at my old club, City.

Let’s be honest – he’s already broken record after record in his three years at the Etihad. Look at the milestones he’s smashed – it’s just phenomenal. There seems to be a new one every week!

But this is an exclusive club of goalscorers in the Premier League and I’m sure he’ll be delighted to be included. Well done to him.

The frightening thing is that now he’s hit his century in the Premier League, there’s absolutely no chance he’s going to stop there.

He looked the real deal in his first season when he hit 36 in the league and 52 in all competitions but he’s still only young and I think he’s matured and become a real leader on the pitch on top of all his goals. The sky’s the limit for him.

And, as for his goals? Wow. What a goalscorer he is! You can’t not enjoy watching him putting the ball in the back of the net – the hardest thing to do in football. He makes it look easy. He’s a special goalscorer and I think he’ll only get better.

I just think he’s a superstar!

No.12 - LES FERDINAND

I’d like to send my congratulations to Erling Haaland on becoming the latest entrant into the Premier League 100 Club.

Erling has essentially scored 100 goals in just over 100 games. That’s ridiculous…absolutely incredible.

I don’t care who you are and in what era you played, those are just unbelievable statistics. When he joined Manchester City, he was signed to score goals and he’s doing his job week-in and week-out. He’s going above and beyond. He just loves finding the net and continues to do that on a regular basis, four seasons in. Very well done to him!

I’ve always been extremely impressed with him in terms of his goalscoring. I think his goalscoring is second to none in world football, not just the Premier League. Some players come into the Premier League and they take time to adjust but with Erling, he didn’t need that as the figures quite clearly show. I know he broke the individual Premier League record in his first season with 36 goals!

But the thing I’ve noticed most with him this season is the improvement in his all-round play. I’ve been really impressed with how much he’s enhanced that.

I saw his interview after the Brentford game where he said he got angry with the defender because he’d tried to outmuscle him and it spurred him on. He went on and scored the only goal of the game which won the match. That’s the Erling I want to see every week, using his size and strength to dominate defences. I think we are now!

In terms of his overall game, I know this season he’s been made one of the captains, too, by Pep – he’s now part of the leadership group. I think that’s had an impact. He’s taken that on. It’s showing because, as I said, I think he’s a different player this season.

But getting back to goals – because that’s what’s got him in the 100 Club! – what I like about Erling – he scores all types of different goals. It’s not just ball in behind and he gets on the end of it and then he’s away. He’ll chip it, he’ll score with his left, he’ll score with his right, he gets his fair share of headers. He scores from distance. He scores from close-range. He’s complete. And I’m delighted to see him join the 100 Club.

I’m 12th on the list with 149 goals. And I was second to hit the 100-goal mark in the Premier League after Alan Shearer.

In fact, I remember one afternoon I was chatting to Martin Tyler before Newcastle v Nottingham Forest at St James Park in 1997 and he said to the boys around the tunnel ‘Alan Shearer has scored 100 Premier League goals, does anyone know who’s second’.

People started mentioning names and I was stood there smiling. He said ‘you know don’t you’. And I said ‘yes’.

I needed to score that day to hit 100 Premier League goals and I did. So the milestone is a proud one for me. I was fifth on the list when I retired in 2006.

Obviously I’ve moved down since then with more and more players going past me and I’m sure I’ll be 13th in a little while when Erling hits 150.

But it’s great to see Erling join us. He’s a worthy addition – and certainly worth his weight in gold for Manchester City.

Haaland: I'll remember this game for the rest of my life!

No.27 - EMILE HESKEY

Well done to Erling Haaland on reaching 100 goals and entering the Premier League 100 Club.

I’ve been super impressed with him since he arrived in the Premier League. We all know it’s arguably the toughest league to play in and features the most decorated and toughest defenders in world football. So to get to that milestone in the way he’s done it, well done to him.

We always ask for patience with players coming into a new country and a new league. It takes time to acclimatise for many reasons, particularly the intensity of the Premier League.

So for Erling to come over and hit 36 goals in his first season in the Premier League and 52 in all competitions is exceptional. That showed you his capabilities, his mentality and basically who the man is.

Now three seasons later and just four seasons in, he’s reached 100 goals. In just over 100 games. That is simply not normal.

I don’t think you would see that very often – one in 1,000, maybe one in 100,000.

To score goals every week, seemingly in every game he plays is astonishing and to have that relentlessness to keep doing it, too.

AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisement

In his first season, for example, he scored 52 goals in 53 games. Let me tell you, 53 is a lot of games in one season.

So mentally, he’d be drained because of the sheer intensity of the football calendar. To be scoring goals at that rate with that backdrop is ridiculous really.

Obviously I’m very proud to be a part of the Premier League 100 Club myself.

I wouldn’t say I was an out-and-out goalscorer but I did get my fair share of goals. It’s nice to be in that group of players.

It’s an illustrious and iconic club to be part of. There’s only 35 in it now Erling has joined. It’s great to welcome Erling into it. Congratulations again.
