There's a dream alternative for Marc Guehi at Liverpool.
It is still with a heavy heart that we remember those last few minutes of the summer window. Guehi was so close to becoming a Liverpool player.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementHad it worked out. Had Crystal Palace not pulled out of the deal right at the very last minute, things might have also turned out differently for Liverpool.
Ultimately, we will never know.
What we do know is that Guehi is now going to be the subject of interest from a lot of clubs as he enters the final six months of his contract.
Ultimately, it is unlikely that he will want to move in the January window. As a free agent, Liverpool will have a lot of competition. Including from giants like Real Madrid and many others.
Whether they would be able to persuade Guehi to chose Anfield again remains to be seen. But Liverpool are definitely working on alternative solutions.

According to transfer expert Ekrem Konur, Liverpool have alternatives for Guehi. One of those is a potential dream option in Alessandro Bastoni.
Konur admits this would be a 'difficult' move but it's one that could be even better than Guehi in terms of fit and style of play.
Bastoni is one of the best defenders in Europe right now. He's simply at the top of his game at 26-years-old and there are few centre-backs who are both as strong aerially and on the ground while being able to read the game as effectively as he does.

He would absolutely be the dream signing for Liverpool. In terms of profile and status in world football Bastoni is the player you want to bring in.
The Italian could partner Virgil van Dijk but long-term he could also become his successor. At which point you could have Giovanni Leoni and Bastoni being the Italian duet at the heart of Liverpool's defence.
We know Richard Hughes has a lot of strong connections in Italian football. This is a difficult deal to pull off because Italian players do not often venture outside of the Serie A.

But if anyone can do it, it's Hughes. He's done it time and time again over the course of his tenure at the club.
