The VOD release date for Tron: Ares has been revealed, following the sequel's disappointing $142 million box office and lukewarm reviews from critics and audiences alike. The third in the sci-fi action franchise brings the world of the Grid into reality. Reviews for Tron: Ares were mixed, with the sequel currently holding a 53% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes.
Now, Disney has confirmed Tron: Ares will be available on VOD and for digital purchase on Tuesday, December 2, exactly one week from today. Its digital release comes just two months after its theatrical release date on October 10, 2025. The studio also confirmed the film will be available in 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray and DVD on January 6, 2026.
Digital and physical purchases of Tron: Ares will come with three deleted scenes, titled "Seth's Date," "Burning Man," and "Lisberger Cameo."
In addition, there will be multiple featurettes. In "Journey to Tron: Ares," star Jared Leto and director Joachim Rønning, alongside other cast and crew members, discuss the physical sets, stunts, and costumes in the film. "Lightcycles On The Loose" focuses on Rønning discussing the most high-octane scene in the movie. "Cast Conversations" highlight reflections of various cast members.
"The Artistry Of Tron" sees Rønning and Leto talking about the artistic influence of the film's visuals. Finally, "The Legacy Of Tron" focuses on the nostalgia of the franchise and references throughout Tron: Ares. Disney will also be releasing a Tron 3-Movie Collection digitally and physically, offering all three Tron movies in a singular collection.

Tron: Ares' fast-approaching VOD and digital release might be able to offset its unfortunate performance at the box office. The sequel had a budget between $180 million to $220 million, with its box office numbers resulting in a financial loss. An October financial report revealed Tron: Ares may lose Disney $132.7 million due to its underperformance.
Although Tron: Ares' cast included the likes of Leto, Greta Lee, Evan Peters, and a returning Jeff Bridges, the film wasn't able to garner enough in theaters for it to be successful. The movie's quick VOD release and subsequent physical release in January might be able to offset its disappointing theatrical performance, but only time will tell.
With the movie having taken the franchise in a new direction, it's unclear if Tron: Ares will be the final legacy of the sci-fi world or not. For now, it seems like its home release can recoup some of its costs, though it'll depend on how many viewers are interested in the movie's premise.
