By Michael GallagherShareNewsweek is a Trust Project memberThe San Francisco 49ers capped off Week 12 with a 20-9 win over the Carolina Panthers at Levi’s Stadium on “Monday Night Football,” but it may have come at a cost.
Star receiver Jauan Jennings, who caught the lone touchdown pass from quarterback Brock Purdy on San Francisco’s opening series, may have some NFL punishment coming his way, as does Panthers safety Tre’von Moehrig potentially pending a league review of their postgame altercation.
As players were gathering on the field after the final whistle, Jennings sought out Moehrig. The 28-year-old wideout hit Moehrig in the face twice before being pulled off by a Panthers linebacker, and Jennings had to be restrained by his own teammates to keep him from going after Moehrig again.

While Jennings’ outburst may have seemed unwarranted to some, video from an incident earlier in the game showed that wasn’t true as cameras captured Moehrig punching Jennings below the belt, which seemingly prompted his fiery response.
Video of both incidents is below.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported on Monday morning that the league will investigate the incident, and punishment is likely for both players.
“As the NFL does with these types of incidents, the league is looking into the multiple altercations between Tre’von Moehrig and Jauan Jennings both during and after Monday night’s game,” Pelissero reported. “The TV cameras caught Moehrig punching Jennings right in the 49ers. Jennings did not take well to that, ended up going after Moehrig after the game, had to be separated and held back by teammates.
“We have seen multiple suspensions this season for spitting — unsportsmanlike conduct has been a huge emphasis for the league. It’ll be interesting to see how they view this situation right here. If there is any suspension, that will come down at some point [Monday].”
Moehrig told reporters after the game that he fully expects a fine to come his way for his actions. Jennings, on the other hand, may get hit with a one-game suspension for throwing hands, much like Detroit Lions safety Brian Branch earlier this year, or he may just get tagged with a fine since Moehrig provoked the incident.
