Here’s the irony: The team that brought us “Moreyball” under James Harden is now taking some of the worst shots in the league, at least in the way we came to understand it in the Moreyball era. Remember when Harden would only shoot 3s or at the rim and eschewed all of the real estate in between? Well, these Rockets are basically the polar opposite of that. Entering Monday, Houston is taking 42 percent of its shots in the zone between the charge circle and the 3-point line, according to Basketball-Reference.com, the highest rate in the league. The Rockets are the league’s top offense despite ranking last in 3-point frequency, with just a third of their shots coming from deep. Houston has certainly paid a penalty for all the long 2s in some respects: It is 26th in the NBA in 2-point shooting percentage.
