At first glance, you might not think that 64-year-old Steve Scott and 6-time NBA Champion Michael Jordan have a lot in common.

"I was the 13th guy on a 12-man basketball team. But here I am in the NBA for my 27th season," said Warriors new public address announcer Steve Scott in a recent interview at Chase Center.

The Stockton native and San Jose State grad had a love for basketball from an early age and, like Jordan, was cut from his varsity basketball team as a sophomore. As fate would have it, Scott and Jordan's paths would cross in Chicago. As Jordan's NBA career was taking off, Scott's career in the NBA was also beginning, behind the microphone.

"It was a lot of fun to be a part of the Jordan era, to say from North Carolina, 6-6, Michael Jordan. That's a thrill, and it still is almost 30 years later," said Scott. "My first year with the Bulls was the year before the first championship 1989-1990, stayed there in various capacities as a PA Announcer. So I got to do, 12, 14, 15 games a year. It was a lot of fun, then I became the regular full-time announcer. Then, when I went and left to New York, I got picked up as a fill-in announcer there."

Scott worked for the New York Knicks through 2015 and thought his career in the NBA might be over, until a new opportunity arose more than a decade later with the Golden State Warriors. By chance, Scott was at a local San Francisco radio station and met with Warriors' Senior Vice President of Communications Raymond Ridder. The Warriors were in search of a new public address announcer, and over time, it became clear that Scott was the perfect choice for the job.

When we asked Scott why he still does this, his answer was simple.

"You know I really love it. I love being a part of the Warriors experience. Honestly, I didn't know I'd ever be doing it again. I grew up in Central California, the Warriors were my team. Now to have a chance to come back here, this iconic team, iconic players, this iconic building. I really couldn't say no, how could you?"
