New York Giants rookie edge defender Abdul Carter, who was benched by interim head coach Mike Kafka for one series after missing a walk through practice before the Week 11 game against the Green Bay Packers, did not start Monday night against the New England Patriots. The ESPN broadcast called that a “coach’s decision.”

Carter was the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. He was expected to be a difference-maker as a pass rusher. While he has created pressure, Carter has only a half-sack in 12 games.

Chauncey Golston started on the edge in Carter’s place. The Giants rotated Tomon Fox in during sub packages.

Carter entered the game during the Patriots’ first drive of the second quarter.

There have been unconfirmed reports that Carter committed a number of rules violations that went unchecked this season before Brian Daboll was fired after Week 10.

We will see how long this benching lasts, and what Kafka has to say about this incident after the game.
