Give me a lighthearted recap
In the three years since Prime Video’s A League of Their Own debuted its first season, audiences have gone through the emotional ups and downs that come with being part of a fandom. Despite a growing base and heaps of positive reviews, the production was unceremoniously given the axe after its first set of episodes, leaving viewers with plenty of questions. Although we may not return to the baseball-filled world co-created by Will Graham and Abbi Jacobson (at least for now), a new event will bring the Rockford Peaches back for one night only. Today, the network announced that the stellar ensemble and creative minds behind A League of Their Own will join forces and sit down together for a very special virtual table read of the show’s celebrated Season 1 finale.
Fans will want to pencil Sunday, December 7 at 4 pm PT into their planners for the one-of-a-kind event, which serves as a fundraiser for Jacobson and Mieka Tennant’s Tender Pictures fellowship program. The eight-month program strives to help new storytellers get their work out there and give their unique voices a chance to be heard and — hopefully — grow into something bigger. As for the table read, those in attendance can expect to see and hear from ensemble members including Jacobson, Chanté Adams, D’Arcy Carden, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Patrick J. Adams, and more as they turn page after page on the season finale. Following the table read, an exclusive Q&A will turn fans into mega fans as they uncover more about the mechanics of the series.
In a statement released with the announcement, Jacobson said,
“The love and passion our fans have shown for this show and these characters has never wavered. Getting to bring the cast back together, even for one night, feels so special. We’ve missed our fans deeply, and we can’t wait to share this moment with them.”
‘A League of Their Own’s D’Arcy Carden Is Certain the Series Will Play Ball Again
Having previously worked together on shows like Broad City, A League of Their Own reunited Carden and her close friend Jacobson. In an interview earlier this year with Collider’s Perri Nemiroff, D’Arcy revealed that she knew how the series, which was originally greenlit for a four-episode second season, was going to round out, revealing,
"I know what the end was. Abbi took me through what the end of the season would look like. When it was sort of presented like a shortened season, that was sort of even a question. Do we even want to do that? Is that too short? When Abbi told me what it would look like, I was like, 'We have to do it. It's too good. That has to be wrapped up in this way. That would be so fulfilling to us as actors, to the fans of the show, who put so much love and energy into it, that deserve the period at the end of the sentence instead of the dot, dot, dot.' Meaning I do have a little bit of closure because I kind of know where the characters end up at, but that's not fair for everybody else."
