Hollywood’s upcoming 2026 movie Masters of the Universe is about to face some competition for fan attention, as a new He-Man series is set to debut in the spring. If there is one thing fans should take away from this news, it’s that 2026 is shaping up to be a huge year for the Masters of the Universe fandom.
Dark Horse Comics recently announced that it will expand its new miniseries Masters of the Universe: The Sword of Flaws into a monthly ongoing series titled He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.
Master of the Universe #1 skeletor main cover
Tim Seeley will remain the lead writer, with the title change beginning in issue #5 after “The Sword of Flaws” arc concludes. Issue #5 will hit shelves on March 25, 2026, launching a new storyline called “The Battle of Snake Mountain.”

While Seeley will remain on the series, he will now be joined by an art team that includes Reilly Brown, colorist Jim Charalampadis, and letterer AndWorld Design. Along with this new artistic direction, issue #5 will mark the beginning of a bigger, long-term plan for the Masters of the Universe franchise at Dark Horse, signaling a major shift for the ongoing series.
While He-Man and the Masters of the Universe #5 will introduce a new storyline, fans can likely expect it to build on the lore established in The Sword of Flaws. This arc notably introduced the Sword of Flaws, a weapon originally forged by the Eternian sorcerer He-Ro as a complement to the legendary Sword of Power, expanding the mythos surrounding Eternia’s most powerful artifacts.
However, the blade eventually became corrupted and was hidden until Skeletor uncovered and claimed it, granting him new levels of power that further intensified his threat to Eternia. The Sword of Flaws storyline will conclude in February with issue #4, effectively setting the stage for The Battle of Snake Mountain.
Will Dark Horse’s He-Man and the Masters of the Universe Follow the Same Continuity as the Movie?

Despite Dark Horse’s upcoming He-Man and the Masters of the Universe comic releasing in the same year as Travis Knight’s Masters of the Universe movie, the two projects will feature storylines independent of each other. This means the events of the comic will not impact the film’s continuity, and the movie’s narrative will likewise remain separate from the ongoing series.
With the comic series launching in March and the movie arriving in theaters on June 5, 2026, Masters of the Universe fans will be eating well come spring and summer. This marks a major revival for the franchise, with two significant projects reaching audiences within months of each other. If both the series and movie succeed, even more Masters of the Universe content will likely follow.
He-Man and the Masters of the Universe #5 is available March 25, 2026, from Dark Horse Comics!
