Former WWE Tag Team Champions The Headbangers, consisting of Mosh and Thrasher, have officially announced their plans to retire from active in-ring competition. The duo revealed in a video posted to social media that their incredible 33-year run as a team will conclude next summer. The announcement was initially shared by Thrasher, whose real name is Glenn Ruth.

Thrasher emphasized the impressive longevity of their partnership in his opening remarks. “June of 2026 will be 33 years that we’ve been together,” Thrasher stated. The Hall of Famers then announced the date for their final match. “And with heavy hearts, we’re announcing that on Thursday, July 23rd, 2026… ISPW Legends of Wrestling Night… Wildwoods Convention Center, Wildwood, New Jersey, will be our last match,” Thrasher confirmed.

While the final date is set, the team did leave the door slightly ajar for specific exceptions. Mosh, whose real name is Chaz Warrington, quickly interjected with a caveat regarding their retirement status. “Unless, of course, WWE calls,” Mosh joked, expressing his willingness to return to his former promotion.

Thrasher also added his own personal bucket list item to the list of exceptions that would halt their retirement. “Or more importantly Japan, since I’ve still never been there,” Thrasher added.

Despite the jokes, the team was quick to confirm that the ISPW date is definitively intended to be their final “in ring” appearance together. They urged both promoters and fans to take advantage of the remaining time to book them. “If you want to see us, be there at the Wildwoods Convention Center on July 23rd, 2026. Or tell your local promoters to book us now,” Thrasher stated. Mosh compared their impending farewell to another high-profile retirement occurring in the industry. “Because this is like John Cena’s last run,” Mosh noted. Thrasher quickly finalized the urgent message: “Time is ticking,” he added.

The Headbangers are best known for their tenure in the World Wrestling Federation during the famed late 1990s Attitude Era. The team captivated WWE fans by portraying a pair of skirt-wearing, metal-loving brawlers. They captured the coveted WWF Tag Team Championship in 1997, solidifying their legacy as one of the best Attitude Era teams. Thrasher also briefly secured the WWF Hardcore Championship during his time with the company.

The team’s run in WWE ended in 2004, but both men continued wrestling on the independent circuit for years. They also made sporadic returns to WWE television in 2016, proving their continued relevance. Their scheduled retirement in 2026 will officially bring to a close an iconic tag team partnership that will have impressively lasted 33 years.

The retirement match will take place at the ISPW Legends of Wrestling Night event in Wildwood, New Jersey. The show is scheduled to feature eight matches and will be headlined by an ISPW Heavyweight Title Match between Justin Corino and “The Revolver” Alex Reiman. The main event will also feature WWE Hall of Famer Tito Santana serving as the special guest referee. The card also includes a notable match featuring the NWA star Wrecking Ball Legursky.
