Five Nights at Freddy's 2 is not getting the same simultaneous theatrical and streaming release plan that the first film got. Instead, Universal has given the sequel an exclusive theatrical rollout, starting December 5, and delaying when the movie will be available to stream on Peacock, NBCUniversal's streaming service.
The move comes after Five Nights at Freddy's dominated the box office, earning $291 million worldwide for Universal and Blumhouse against a small $20 million budget. While demand was high in theaters, people also turned it into a streaming hit, making it Peacock's most-watched release ever in its first five days.
With so many fans already accustomed to seeing the video game movie franchise on streaming, that format release for Five Nights at Freddy's 2 will be of high demand. Universal hasn't confirmed any release date news for the sequel on streaming so far. Luckily, there's a lot of data available to help predict when that will be.
Universal's Streaming Release Data & How It Impacts Five Nights At Freddy's 2
Freddy Fazbear in Five Nights at Freddy's 2
It's important to understand how Universal typically handles streaming releases of theatrically released films to gauge when this will happen for the Five Nights at Freddy's sequel. In 2025, the average Universal movie makes its streaming debut on Peacock 84.1 days after debuting in theaters.
Three movies got 120ish day gaps, with Dog Man and Jurassic World Rebirth waiting 120 days exactly, while How To Train Your Dragon went a day earlier, at 119 days. Those are among Universal's biggest movies of the year, which Five Nights at Freddy's 2 figures to be as well. So, that longer-than-average gap may be what happens here.
Universal's Blumhouse movies tend to go to streaming a bit quicker, though. Wolf Man, The Woman in the Yard, Drop, and M3GAN 2.0 all went to streaming after 91 days. This is longer than the 84-day average, but not by much. With Blumhouse involved in Five Nights at Freddy's 2, that distinction is also worth keeping in mind.
All the Universal movies that have gone to streaming quicker than 91 days are indies that didn't expect to be huge box office performers. Even if Five Nights at Freddy's 2 disappoints financially, that would not likely result in a significant overhaul of the studio's approach to streaming release schedules and theatrical windows.
Five Nights At Freddy's 2 Streaming Release Date Prediction
Piper Rubio, Josh Hutcherson, and Elizabeth Lail in Five Nights at Freddy's 2
For those reasons, Five Nights at Freddy's 2 stands to have its streaming release 91 or 120 days after its theatrical launch. And with the first movie going to Peacock the same day as it went to theaters, there is no specific historical precedent for how Universal and Blumhouse will handle this new franchise installment.
The data suggests early March or early April as the streaming release timeline. Either could happen, but another piece of data gives a slight edge to the latter.
With the first movie, Universal waited 32 days to make it available on digital. The studio typically only waits that long for movies that wait 119/120 days to go to streaming. If the sequel receives the same treatment and heads to PVOD in early January 2026, then a streaming debut on Peacock in April would make sense. April 3rd is our official prediction for Five Nights at Freddy's 2's streaming release date.
